Electron Structure Flashcards
What are alpha particles?
He with a positive 2 charge.
Planck’s Constant
6.626 x 10^-34 J * s
Energy emitted by photons?
Ephoton = nhv
where n is a positive integer
h is planck’s constant
v is the frequency of the light, which in 1/s units.
As a result, emitted electromagnetic radiation must be in multiples of hv.
What is amplitude and what is associated with?
The distance between the crest of the a wave and its central access (x-axis running through the waves).
Amplitude is associated with brightness.
What is a wavelength?
The horizontal distance between two troughs or crests.
What is frequency?
The number of wavelengths that pass a given point in space every second. Measured in herts (Hz). Written s^-1 or 1/s.
How are wavelength and frequency related?
They are inversely proportional.
Equation describing wavelength frequency relationship.
c=(lambda)(nu)
lambda is in meters
nu is in hertz
c=3.00×10^8 m/s–>the speed of light
What is the speed of electromagnetic radiation, regardless of the wavelength?
It is the speed of light.
c-3.00x10^8 m/s
