Electromagnetic Spectrum Flashcards
What’s the difference between short and long wavelengths.
The difference between long and short wavelengths is that short wavelengths are much higher in energy and long wavelengths are the opposite.
What’s a radio wave and what is it used for?
Long frequency waves size ranging from mountains to humans. for communications such as AM/FM and telecommunication satellites
What are microwaves and what its use?
Second longest frequency waves size ranging from a die to needle points. used for shorter range communication such as wifi calls or remote controls.
What are infrared waves? and what’s its use?
Third longest frequency wave size ranging from an animal cell to bacteria. Used for heating and infrared imaging to measure the temperature of areas.
What are ultraviolet rays? and what’s its use?
Third shortest frequency wave size ranging from a virus to DNA. Used for a variety of things such as killing bacteria and creating fluorescent lights
What are x rays? and what’s its use?
Second shortest frequency wave size ranging from a water molecule to an atom. Used in medicine to examine most areas of the body.
What are gamma rays? and what’s its use?
Shortest frequency wave, size of an atom nucleus. Used for a variety of things such as radiotherapy and sterilization.
