Q

Role of salt bridge

A

Role of salt bridge: are u-shaped tubes made with agar-agar gel contains Kcl or KnO3 . Because there salts the ions have almost the same speed. If a salt bridge is not used, there will be accumulation of charges near two electrodes. The salt bridge provides a passage for the flow of charges in the internal circuit, -ve ions form copper electrode to zinc rod +ve ion zinc rod to copper rod. Hence flow of electricity is maintained

Q

First law of electrolysis

A

“the weight of the substance liberated at the electrode as a result of electrolysis is directly proportional to the quantity of electricity, passed through the electrolyte”

Second law of electrolysis

A

“when the same quantity of electricity is passed through different electrolyte solutions, the weights of different substances produced at the electrodes are proportional to their equivalent weight”
