Chemical Bonding Flashcards
Covalent bonding
Is a bond between shared pairs of electrons between non metals
Ionic bonding
Transfer of electrons between atoms that are held by strong forces of attraction because it’s between a non metal and a metal
Metals charge?
Metals are positively charged because in ionic bonding it will lose an electron and protons will out number the negative electrons due to metals having a lower number of electrons in its outer shell
Dative covalent bonding
A dative covalent bond is a regular covalent bond except for how its formed both electrons in the shared pair are provided by the same element
Metallic bonding
Bond between 2 metals where both atoms achieve stability by off loading electrons
Lattice
Lattice is a giant atomic structure that consists of atoms covalently banded
