Electrocardiography Flashcards
Flow of cardiac depolarization
Sinus node > atrial muscle > AV node > His bundle > bundle branches > Purkinje network > ventricular muscle
Where does atrial depolarization start from?
SA node
Where does ventricular depolarization start?
AV node
What does the amplitude on the ECG represent?
Voltage
What do the P and QRS waves represent?
P: atrial depolarization
QRS: ventricular depolarization
What are the bipolar limb leads?
I, II, III
What are the augmented limb leads?
aVR, aVL, aVF
How does the P and QRS waves appear on each lead?
II, III, aVF -positive
aVR, aVL -negative
What are differentials for a tall or wide P wave?
Tall: P pulmonale, RA dilation
Wide: P mitrale, LA dilation
What does a prolonged P-Q interval indicate?
First degree AV block
What does a narrow QRS complex indicate?
Supreventricular origin
normal conduction
< 70 ms dog
< 40 ms cat
What does a wide QRS complex indicate?
Supraventricular origin
Damaged purkinje system
Abnormal conduction
What does a tall R wave indicate?
LV enlargement
What does a dominant S wave show?
RV enlargement
“right axis shift”
