Q

How do magnets create electricity?

A
  1. Spin a magnet inside a coil (generator)
  2. Causing electrons to build up
  3. Produces electricity

Q

How can electricity be generated and used to power a light bulb?

A
  1. Generator is spin (hydro-electric, etc.)
  2. Magnet rotates causing electrons to build up (charge)
  3. Atoms wanna bond - copper wire conducts (travels) through hot line
  4. Electrons run into filament (added resistance - harder for electrons to pass through tungsten)
  5. Electrons are pushed through causing friction (metal is so hot it glows)
  6. Electrons pass back through the neutral line to ground out

Q

What is a short circuit?

A

Tree crushes hot and neutral lines causing a

short circuit - electrons want to take the shortest route to ground out

Q

What is electrolysis?

A

Electrolysis is a method of separating ions within a substance by passing electrical current through the substance

Electrolysis involves the use of two electrodes called a

cathode (negative -) attracts positively charged ions

and an

Anode (positive +) attracts negatively charged ions
