Electricity (Chapter P4) Flashcards
What do 2 objects with the same charge do
They repel from each other
What do 2 objects with different charges do
They attract each other
What is the equation for charge
Charge = Current x time
What is charge measured in
Coulombs, C
What is current measured in
Amperes, A
What way does the electron flow go in a circuit
To the right of the battery
What way does the conventional direction go in a circuit
To the left of the battery
What is the equation for potential difference
Potential difference = Energy transferred/Charge
What is potential difference measured in
Volts, V
What is energy transferred measured in
Joules, J
What is the equation for resistance
Resistance = Voltage/Current
What is resistance measured in
Ohms
How does the resistance of a wire change if the length increases
It increases as well
What does “in series” mean
It means when a component is in the same circuit as the the rest of the components
What does “in parallel” means
It means when the component is branched off the main circuit
What is a thermistor
It is a resistor that changes resistance as the temperature changes
(As the temperature increases, the resistance decreases)
What is a LDR’s
It is a resistor which changes resistance based on the light intensity
(As the light intensity increases, the resistance decreases)
What is the equation for power
Power = Energy transfer/time Power = Voltage x Current
What does a perspex rod rubbed with a cloth become
Positively charged
What does a polythene rod rubbed with a cloth become
Negatively charged
