Electricity Chapter 12 Flashcards
What is Current electricity
A steady current of electricity that travels through a conductor. it is predictable and is used to power most devices in our houses
What is static electricity
Electrons gather up in one place (the surface) and move in all direction, it has an un predictable flow
What is a electric circuit
A path through that electrons current flow
Why cant electrons flow with a dead battery
Electrons cannot flow through a dead battery because the chemical reaction has stooped that produces electric energy.
what is a black out and what causes it?>
a black out is a temporary loss of electricity in a certain area. black outs are caused by electric grid faliuar
what is in a electric circuit
- Energy source
- Load
- Conducting Wires
- Switches (sometimes)
What is electric energy
The energy provided by the flow of electrons in a circuit
what are the two main sources of electric energy
batteries and electric generators
what is a cell
A device that turns chemical energy into electrical energy
Primary Cell
a cell that may only be used once
Secondary cell
A rechargeable cell
How many cells does it take to make battery
there is int and exact number it all detriments on how much voltage and how many cells your battery can hold on
What is the differnce in
AC and DC
Dc or Direct current, a current that doesnt change its path; it goes from a negative to a positive. AC or alternating current, a current that can change its path
What is a generator
A device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
What is a simple generator made of>?
A simple genarator is made of a wire coil near a magnet.
