Electricity Flashcards
circuit
a closed path for electricity to flow and produce effect.
Electric circuits can produce light, heat, sound and motion.
current
the flow of electricity through a conductor.
Electrical current is what produces effect in a circuit.
flow
movement in one direction
Electricity flows. Rivers flow. A conversation can flow.
electrons
negatively charged particles that create electricity when flowing through a closed circuit.
The movement of electrons create an electric current.
series circuit
a closed path for electricity to flow in one continuous loop.
If one part of the series is removed, the circuit is no longer closed and no part can function.
parallel circuit
a connected set of multiple independent paths for electricity to flow.
If one part of the circuit is interrupted or removed, the other parts will still continue to function.
conductors
any material that will allow energy to pass through it.
Metals and carbon are the best conductors of electric energy.
Insulators
any material that will not allow energy to pass through it.
Some of the common insulators of electricity are: plastic, rubber, glass, fabric and wood.
