Electricity Flashcards
What happens when charges move?
We get an electrical current.
What does the size of current depend on?
- The number of cells
2. The number of components in the circuit
What are all substances made from?
Atoms
How can substances become charged?
When substances run together, it is possible to transfer electrons from one material to another. This is because of friction.
What is the law for charges?
Like charges repel, opposite charges attract.
What happens when you charge polythene with wool?
Electrons move from the wool onto the polythene.
Polythene becomes negatively charged because it gained electrons.
Wool became positively charged because it lost electrons.
What happens when acetate is charged with wool?
Electrons move from the acetate onto the wool.
Acetate becomes positively charged because it loses electrons.
Wool becomes negatively charged because it gained electrons.
