Pressure And Speed Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is the definition of pressure?
Pressure is defined as the force of an object divided by the area of the object in contact with a surface.
What two things does pressure depend on?
1.How much force
2Surface area
What is the equation for pressure?
Pressure= Force/Area
P=F/A
What is pressure measured in?
Neutons per metres squared or neutons per centimetres squared.
What is an alternate measurement for pressure?
Pascals (Pa) where 1Pa= 1N/m squared.
What happens for a fixed area?
Pressure increases as the applied force increases.
What happens for a fixed force?
The pressure increases as the contact area decreases.
What is speed?
Speed is the distance an object moves in 1 second.
What is the calculation for speed?
Speed=Distance/Time
What is speed measured in?
m/s
What is the equation for average speed?
Total distance/Total time
