Electricity Flashcards
What is potential difference / voltage?
The measure of the energy given to 1 coloumb of charge.
What is electrical power?
How much energy is transferred in one second.
What is Electric Current?
The charge in one second.
What is an Electric Field?
An area where a charge particle experiences a force.
What is the function of a resistor?
To reduce the current in a circuit
What is alternating current (A.C) ?
The direction of the electrons change back and forth continously.
What is the current in a series circuit?
The same at all points.
How can resistence be measured?
By connecting an ohmmeter in parallel across the component.
What is a fuse?
A safety device used to protect the flex from too much current.
What is direct current, D.C?
The charges flow in only one direction.
What is a common source of D.C (Direct current)?
Batteries/Cells
What is a common source of A.C (Alternating Current)?
Mains Supply
What is the unit for potential difference?
Volt (V)
What is a series circuit?
A circuit with only one path for the current to flow.
What is voltage like in a parallel circuit?
Voltage on each branch is the exact same as the voltage from the battery/supply.
What is a potential or voltage divider circuit?
A series circuit containing two or more components.
What is required to protect an LED from too much current?
Series Resistor
How do you connect a voltmeter?
In parallel
How do you connect an Ammeter?
In series
What is a parallel circuit?
A circuit with more than one path for the current to flow.
If the power rating is over 720W, what fuse is needed?
13 Amperes (A)
How many directions is current allowed to flow through an LED?
One (1)
What is a transistor?
An electronic device that can be used as a switch.
Unit for electric current (I) ?
Amperes (A)
