Electrical Systems Flashcards
Name the four sources of Electrical Power
Main Battery
Starter Generator
Auxiliary Battery
External Power
Which side of the cockpit is the Generator Bus (and associated CBs) located on?
Right hand side.
Which side of the cockpit is the Battery Bus (and associated CBs) located on?
Left hand side.
Which bus is the battery always connected to?
The Hot Bat Bus
What is the purpose of the Hot Bat Bus?
To run essential systems, such as OBOGS and the emergency flap system.
Which piece of equipment links the engine to the Generator in order to allow it to generate power?
The Accessory Gearbox.
What is the purpose of the Bus Tie?
To connect the Bat and Gen buses, so that the Generator can power all systems once the engine has started.
What is the minimum voltage required from the battery before external power is connected?
22V
What is the minimum voltage required from the battery if a battery start is required?
23.5V
What is the maximum voltage of the External Power?
32.2V
What could happen if the battery voltage is too low, or the external power voltage is too high?
Excessive charging and battery damage.
If the battery and generator both fail, how long will the auxiliary battery provide power to essential systems for?
20 to 30 minutes.
How do you test the five cells of the auxiliary battery?
By holding the Aux Bat Test switch up for 5 seconds. If the light goes out after “x” seconds, cell “x” is U/S.
Describe the Anti-Collision Strobe light sequence.
A burst of 4 flashes at a rate of 45+-5 times a minute. The first flash is at full brilliance, and the following three are at half brilliance.
Which bus powers the Anti Collision Lights when in Setting 1?
Bat Bus
