Electrical System Flashcards
Alternator 1
SR20G6: Gear driven 28 V 100 amp on right front of engine
SR22: Gear driven 28 V 100 amp on right front engine
Alternator 2
SR20G6: Belt Driven 28.75 Volt 70 amp on front left of engine
SR22: Belt Driven 28.75 Volt 70 amp on left front of engine
What happens if you turnoff the alternators and then lose battery power
alternators are not self starting and require battery power to do so
alternators would not be able to be turned back on
Battery 1
24 Volt / 10 Amp-hour
mounted on on right firewall
Battery 2
two 12 volt / 7 amp-hour battery
connected in series to provide 24 volts
located in vented acid resistant container mounted behind aft cabin bulkhead below parachute canister
Master Control Unit
located on left firewall
controls Alt 1, Alt 2, starter, landing light, external power
also provides alternator over voltage protection
Transient Voltage Suppressors
installed in key areas of the electrical system to protect from lightning strikes
allows energy from lightning to dissipate though semi-conducting pathways to ground
If you lost Alt 2, what annunciators would you see
Yellow Alt 2
If you lost Alt 1, what would you see
Yellow Alt 1
M BUS 1
Bat 1
When do you see a M BUS CAS message
when M Bus voltage drops to battery voltage
below approx. 24.5 volts
If both alternators fail, what CAS annunciators would you see
Yellow Alt 1
Yellow Alt 2
M Bus 1
M Bus 2
Red Ess Bus and Yellow Bat 1
If both alternators fail, why does Bat 1 power the MBus’s and Bat 2 power the essential bus when their voltages are the same?
because you lose 1v when current traverses a isolation diode, so Bat 2 has a apparently higher voltage because it does not have to cross any diodes to reach essential bus
How long will the Bat’s last if alternators fail
Bat 1 approx 15 minutes
Bat 2 approx 45 minutes
At what voltage would the voltage regulator provide over voltage protection and shut down a particular alternator
31.75 volts
approx 3 volts above normally regulated output
What components are on the constant power bus
Which battery is the constant power bus connected to
CAPS, ELT, Convenience Lights
Bat 1
*CAPS actually can receive power from both batteries
