Electrical Safety Flashcards
1
Q
Why are mains circuits dangerous?
A
Due to high voltages can cause fatal electric shocks
2
Q
What is done to wires to make them safer (reduce chance of electric shock)?
A
Insulated (covering wires so current is inside), make wires thicker, earthing them (using a protective conductor finding a path for the current), fuses and trip switches
3
Q
What is a fuse?
A
Current heats up wire inside and it melts when there’s too much current so the circuit is broken = no current
4
Q
What are trip switches?
A
They can replace fuses. Breaks circuit if current is too high to avoid electric shocks
