Electric Field Flashcards
State Coulomb’s Law and the formula derived from it.
Coulomb’s Law states that the electric force between two point charges is proportional to product of their charges and inversely proportional to square of
separation/distance between them.
F = Q1Q2/4πε0r^2 Q = charge, r = distance between charges
Define an electric field.
An electric field is a region where a charged body experiences an electric force.
Define electric field strength and its formula.
It is defined as the electric force per unit charge acting on a positive test charge placed at a point in a region of electric field.
E = Q/4πε0r^2
Define electric potential.
Electric potential at a point in an electric field is defined as the work done per unit positive charge by an external agent in bringing a small test charge from infinity to the point without any change in kinetic energy.
Define electric potential energy.
Electric potential energy at a point in an electric field is defined as the work done by an external agent in bringing a small test charge from infinity to the point without any change in kinetic energy.
