Electric and Navigation Systems Flashcards
Where is the battery located?
The right hand side of the engine compartment
What is the minimum amp-hour used in the aircraft?
10 amp-hours or more
Is there a backup battery system in case of a failure?
Yes. A lithium battery behind the instrument panel will provide power to the backup attitude indicator and one floodlight for 1.5 hours in case of a failure
What kind of electrical system does the DA40 use?
A 28 volt DC system
How is power generated by the electrical system?
A 70 amp alternator is mounted on the front of the engine
If the alternator fails, what is the ultimate goal?
To shed as much load from the electrical system as possible to conserve battery life for as long as possible
What is one of the largest power draws in the airplane?
The radios, even when Comm 1 is automatically lowered to 10 watts and Comm 2 is turned off during a failure
If you used the radios sparingly during a power failure, how long might you be able to extend the battery life?
About 45 minutes
Where’s the electrical system panel in the aircraft?
Right hand side of the cockpit
How do you activate the emergency battery pack?
Flip the horizon emergency switch
How would you know if the emergency battery pack must be replaced?
The safety wire on the switch would be broken
What system does the DA40 use to help with starting?
“SlickSTART” provides an electric boost to starting
How does the SlickSTART system work?
It provides a shower of sparks during engine start to give better ignition characteristics
In a G-1000 cockpit, what device handles pitot static measurements?
The Air Data Computer
The airspeed and altimeter backups work on the same principle as standard pitot static instruments, true or false?
True
