- prevents voter fraud
- prevents abuse through mulitple voting
- not discriminatory as anyone can obtain the necessary id
what are the arguments against voter id?
- voter fraud is rare
- reduced participation as introducing voter registration did in 2013
- discriminatory against people from disadvantaged backgrounds (estimated 3.8 million dont have necessary id)
- id favours the conservative party
