AV - what do you do in the ballot box?
number the candidates in order of preference
AV - how many representatives do you get , if this system was used in a general election?
you get 1 MP for each of the 650 constituencies
AV - how does this system convert into seats/how are representatives chosen?
a candidate must achieve more than 50% of the vote
AV - what type of system is this
a majority system
AV - if 50% is not achieved in the first round , how does it ensure the winning candidates achieves 50% in the second round?
the candidate who got the least votes is eleiminated, and they take the second preferences of anybody who voted for them and redistribute these votes to the remaining candidates and continues until one candidate has over 50%
AV - what type of system does this favour?
two party system
AV - does this system encourage tactical voting and safe seats?
yes but more conciliatory campaigning for other preferences
AV - in what elections is this system used?
not in the UK and was rejected in 2011 as an option
AV - what type of government does this usually create?
strong one party government
