Elbow & Forearm Flashcards
Flexor carpi radialis
Origin: medial epicondyle (CFT)
Insertion: base of 2nd and 3rd metacarpal
Action: flexion of wrist, radially deviates hand
Nerve: median
Artery: ulnar and radial
Pronator Teres
Origin: Humeral: medial epicondyle (CFT) Ulnar: coronoid fossa Insertion: lateral radius (mid 1/3) Action: pronation, elbow flexion Nerve: median (can entrap) Artery: ulnar and radial
Palmaris longus
not everyone has one
Origin: medial epicondyle (CFT) Insertion: palmar aponeuroses and flexor retinaculum Action: flexion at wrist Nerve: median Artery: ulnar
Flexor carpi ulnaris
Origin: medial epicondyle (CFT) and proximal ulna
Insertion: pisiform, hook of hamate, 5th metacarpal
Action: flexion of wrist, Ulnar deviation of hand.
Nerve: ulna
Artery: ulnar
Flexor digitorum superficialis
Origin:
Humeral ulnar head: medial epicondyle (CFT) and coronoid process
Radial head: proximal 1/3 of radius
Insertion: palmar surface of phalanges 2-5
Action: flexes fingers 2-5 @ MCP and PIP; wrist flexion
Nerve: median
Artery: ulnar and radial
Flexor digitorum profundus
Origin: medial/anterior ulna and inter osseus membrane
Insertion: palmar surface of distal phalanges 2-5
Action: flexes fingers 2-5 @ MCPs and DIPs
Nerves (two!): median and ulnar
Artery: radial, ulnar, ant interosseus
Flexor pollicis longus
Origin: anterior surface of radius and interosseus membrane
Insertion: digital phalanx of thumb
Action: flexes thumb at cmc, mcp and ip joint. Flexing at wrist
Nerve: median
Artery: radial and anterior interosseua
Pronator quadratus
Origin: anterior distal ulna Insertion: anterior distal radius Action: pronates forearm Nerve: median Artery: anterior interosseus
