Elbow Flashcards
middle radioulnar articulation
interosseous membrane and radius and ulna
inerosseous membrane
prevents proximal displacement of the radius on the ulna. Displacement likely occur with pushing movement
Oblique cord prevents
prevents displacement of the radius on the ulna, especially during movements involving pulling
normal carrying angle
5-10 for men
10-15 for women
Gun stock deformity
15 degree medial deviation due to fracture or epiphyseal injury to the distal humerus and a cubitus varus
triangular area of elbow
radial head, tip of olecranon, lateral epicondyle
Lateral epicondylitis method 3 test sometime is called
Maudley’s test
test for pinch grip test and Froment sign
Positive can not pinch with tips of index and thumb. Median injury. Froment sign is opposite. Ulnar injury
Ligament of struthers is called
humerus supracondylar process syndrome
abnormal spur on the shaft of the humerous to the medial epicondyle of the humerus. Brachial artery also accompanies the nerve through this tunnel. Neurological symptom affects pronator teres and same as pronator teres syndrome. Motor loss and sensory loss. Sensory first, motor affects later, with wrist and finger flexion as well as thumb movement being most affected
Pronator teres syndrome
Median compressed between two heads of Pronator teres. Pronation is possible but weakness is evident as pronation is loaded
anterior interosseous nerve syndrome is called
Kiloh-Nevin syndrome, no sensory loss, but pinch sign is positive
Ulnar nerve
C7-C8, T1, cubital tunnel is 2nd common entrapment, affects flexor carp ulnaris and ulnar half of the flexor digitorum profundus
Posterior interosseous syndrome
C5-C8, T1
Posteiror interosseous nerve, compressed between two heads of supinator in the arcade or canal of Frohse. Functional involvement of extensors, wrist drop, no sensory deficit
Radial tunnel syndrome
mimic tennis elbow. Compress Radial nn at entrance to the tunnel anterior to the head of the radius, near the nerve supplies brachioradialis and extensor carpi radialis longus, beween the ulnar half of the tendon of extensor carpi radialis brevis and its fascia and distal border of supinator
Cheiralgia paresthetica
aka wartenberg disease/sign
Compression of radial nerve at brachioradialis tendon, nocturnal pain along the dorsum of the wrist, thumb and web space
