Elasticity Flashcards
What do you need for elastic deformation
At least 2 forces applied to an object in different directions
What is elastic deformation
If you remove the applied forces from an object and it goes back to the original shape and length
What is inelastic deformation
If the applied forces are removed and the object doesn’t return to its original shape and length
What is the equation for spring constant
F=ke
F - force (N)
K - spring constant (N/m)
E - extension (m)
Hookes law
The extension of an object is directly proportional to the force applied to it (provided the limit of proportionality is not exceeded)
What is the limit of proportionality
The limit to the amount of force you can apply to an object for the extension to keep increasing proportionally
What is the gradient of a force/extension graph
The spring constant
