EL 4 - Organising the elements of life Flashcards

1
Q

Describe Mendeleev’s periodic table

A

Mendeleev arranged elements in order of increasing atomic mass.
Elements with similar properties were in the same vertical group.
He left gaps and they corresponded to his predictions of elements that had not been discovered at the time.
(Also made predictions about the properties of undiscovered elements e.g germanium)
