Q

Define IVR

A

AKA idioventricular rhythm is a rhythm originating in the ventricle at its inherent rate; higher pacemakers have failed so the ventricle escapes to save the patient’s life

Rate is between 20-40bpm

Q

Know the 3 degrees of AV block & the characteristics of its P waves

A

First-degree AV block: least dangerous type of AV block; there’s a delay in impulse transmission from sinus node to the ventricles, but every impulse still gets there, just takes longer

P waves: upright, matching; ONE P TO EACH QRS COMPLEX

Second-degree AV block: some impulse from the sinus node gets through to the ventricles, some do not

P waves: all Ps except the blocked P are folllowed by a QRS; find 2 consecutive P waves adn the rest after should have the same P-P interval

Third-degree AV block: none of the impulses from the sinus node get through to the ventricles

P waves: not associated with QRS complex but should have regular P-P intervals

Q

Be able to count the seconds in a PR interval
