What was the primary material or the sculptures
Stone.
Why was stone used in sculptures and temples
Because it symbolised eternity through its durability
Why did the Egyptians have access to a large variety of materials
The country has an abundant source of different types of stone
What different types of stone did they have access to
Limestone, sandstone, granite and diorite
What other materials were also used for sculpture
Wood, clay and bronze. But it was only used for people who were not noble classes.
Where were the statues supposed to go
They were supposed to b allied up in the tombs, but some were commissioned to stand in temples where the rites of the king were celebrated fro eternity
What did pharaoh Mycerinus commission
He commissioned a series of statues for the va;;ey temple at the beginning of the processional way the his pyramid at Giza.
How is Mycernius portrayed in one of these statues
With his wife Khamerernebty. The statue was carved fro, greywacke. It is approximate 1.38m tall and dated back to 2599 BC

A variety of hard limestone
How are they pharaoh and his wife shown
They are shown with relatively simple regalia. The king is wearing a linen headdress, a false beard symbolising divinity and is dressed in a royal kilt. The queen is dressed in a thin sheath robe with a thick stylised hairstyle.
What shows the pharaoh and his wife are eternal
They stare into eternity. Their divinity is emphasised through the air of untouchability. T
How ere the pharaoh and his wife painted
They were painted with rich colours. The paint has disappeared. The sculptures were always covered in naturalistic colours at the time, and the hard stone was mainly for durability.
How is the structure of the pharaoh and his wife strengthened
Through the arrangement of various rhythmic elements. Both figures are standing upright which emphasises the verticality of the whole form of the structure

The vertical line of their arms, legs and torsos and the horizontal lines of the bodily features, the kings belt and the queens arms.
