What is the difference between the ‘red land’ and the ‘black land’?
Red land has dark soil and is elevated. Black land is mostly mountains, rocks, and dunes.
Describe the climate of Egypt?
The climate was very dry, hot, and sunny.
In what ways was the geography and environment of the Nile River Valley more hospitable than that of Mesopotamia?
The Egyptians didn’t need dams or weirs to raise the level of the river and divert water into channels.
Unlike Mesopotamia, Egypt did not need large-scale irrigation projects in their history. Why not?
The river would flood at the best time for agriculture.

Papyrus, wildlife, building stones, clay, copper, and turquoise.

They would trade with Mesopotamia and they would trade gold.

The traded a very limited amount.
In what way(s) were the Egyptian and Mesopotamian religions similar and different?
They both believed that the Gods dealt with nature. Egyptians thought that the king was the son of Re who was the sun god.
What might account for Egypt’s general optimistic view on life, as compared to the pessimistic outlook of the Sumerians?
Sumer might have had a negative view on life because they didn’t have all the resources that Egypt had. Egypt had all their resources.
Why was the rule of Menes (the first of menes…haha) a pivotal event in Egyptian history?
He unified both Upper and Lower Egypt, which no king has ever done before.
How did the political organization of Egypt differ from the political organization of Mesopotamia?
The government had all there rules written down on the Rosetta stone using hieroglyphics, also they were less harsh on their subjects.
Define ma’at. Who was responsible for ma’at?
The divinely authorized order of the universe. The pharaoh.
Describe the role of women in Egyptian society.
Queens could even be seen helping with political activities. Women of the lower class could own property, inherit property from their parents, or leave property for someone in their will. Also a women could defend herself in any divorce case.
Why did the power of the pharaoh decrease over time?
The were being invaded which the pharaoh’s couldn’t stop.
