Q
What is the main difference between a GPWS caution and a GPWS WARNING?
Time to impact.
A
A GPWS CAUTION requires flight crew to correct the flight path, airplane configuration, or airspeed to prevent a GPWS caution from escalating into a GPWS WARNING. GPWS cautions indicate 40 to 60 seconds from projected impact, where GPWS warning indicate 20 to 30 seconds from projected impact.

- Disengage autothrottle.
- Apply maximum thrust (Aggressively).
- Simultaneously:
Roll wings level and rotate to an initial pitch
attitude of 20°. - Retract speed-brakes.
- If terrain remains a threat,
continue rotation up to the pitch
limit indicator.
- Do not change gear or flap
configuration until terrain
separation is assured. - Monitor radio altimeter for
sustained or increasing terrain
separation. - When clear of terrain, slowly
decrease pitch attitude and
accelerate.
