- financial scheme applicable to students aged between sixteen and nineteen whose parents had a certain lower level of taxable income. It applied to those doing, at least 12 hours weekly of guided learning on further education courses in colleges such as A-levels
- Students would receive a maximum of £30 a week if they met their guided learning hours. This was designed to encourage students to stay in education and get higher qualifications than GCSEs
