When was the tripartite system introduced? And what were the three schools involved?
Introduced in 1944, the tripartite system involved. Grammar schools (populated by 20% of the population), secondary modern schools (75%) and technical schools which never properly functioned due to their costly nature.
What happened in 1965?
The comprehensive schooling system was implemented whereby all students would attend one type of schools. The 11+ and the tripartite system was completely abolished. This had the aim of overcoming the divide the tripartite has enforced.

Outline the educational reform act
Introduced marketisation to the education system. Parental choice was increased and chills were in competition with each other. This system had the aim of improving the quality of education through competition. Informative sources such as league tables and ousted reports were provided by the state to inform the parents choice. Also SATS and the national curriculum were introduced for the first time.

In 1998, labour made it possible for schools to have a 10% intake based of the specialism subject
The 2006 education and inspection act gave schools more freedom to be selective by setting their own admission arrangements
The 2006 act also gave funding to all faith schools around the country

Sure start was introduced in EAZ’s (education action zones) which brought together a range of educational and other services to try and tackle cultural and material deprivation. Aim higher initiative aimed to widen participation in higher education among working class students

The academies act of 2010 by the conservative/lib dem government
What did the academies act state?
Authorised the creation of free schools
Allowed all existing state schools to become academies
What are free schools?
Free schools are a type of state funded school controlled by parents charities etc so they facilitate to local demand
