- streaming= as mix range of ability
- mc top sets wc bottom
- government assumed all areas of towns are equally distributed, however mc and wc areas
- better schools in MC areas, prices of houses went up in these areas

- national curriculum= all schools must teach certain subjects
- national tests= published in league tables,
- ofsted introduced= schools rated based on their production every 6 yrs
- choice= parents could choose we’re there child went
- funding formula= amount of children school attracts depends how much money school gets. Leads to competition

- education maintenance allowance= paid for attending collage £30 a week
- national literacy strategy= 1hr maths 1hr English in primary schools
- academies= funded by government don’t have to follow national curriculum. Teachers do not need to be qualified
- specialist school= state schools specify in certain subject
