  • went to school in your catchment area
  • streaming= as mix range of ability
  • mc top sets wc bottom
  • government assumed all areas of towns are equally distributed, however mc and wc areas
  • better schools in MC areas, prices of houses went up in these areas

  • national curriculum= all schools must teach certain subjects
  • national tests= published in league tables,
  • ofsted introduced= schools rated based on their production every 6 yrs
  • choice= parents could choose we’re there child went
  • funding formula= amount of children school attracts depends how much money school gets. Leads to competition

  • education maintenance allowance= paid for attending collage £30 a week
  • national literacy strategy= 1hr maths 1hr English in primary schools
  • academies= funded by government don’t have to follow national curriculum. Teachers do not need to be qualified
  • specialist school= state schools specify in certain subject

  • in 2016 schools forced to become academies, later scraped due to unpopularity, failing schools forced to become
  • increased tuition fees from £3k a year in 1999-2010 to 9k a year in 2010 to present
  • compulsory under 18’s in some form of education
  • free school meals
  • reforms to a levels and GCSE’s
