EDUCATION - difficulties in measuring effect of marketisation and privatisation policies Flashcards
wide-spread impact
marketisation and privatisation are the biggest changes to the English education system since 1944 and so policies on such a huge scale take decades to work through - it is a change that affects education across the WHOLE COUNTRY.
examination results
exam results are the usual way to measure achievement but both GCSE and A-Level assessment systems have changed in the last five years so even recent comparisons are problematic.
one-size-fits-all and fragmentation
one of the professed aims of privatisation and marketisation is to move away from one-size fits all but the issue of this is now state education has become increasingly fragmented.
getting an overall picture is difficult because you can’t compare between them e.g., there are several types of academy schools and so it’s too difficult to compare them.
pupil identities and self worth
how do we measure what students think of themselves because marketisation and privatisation influence this significantly - UCAS has stated there has been a 450% increase in mental health declarations overt the last decade.
