o Concept signifying togetherness & integration among different individuals & groups

- SA: very multicultural + multilingual
- Manifesto on Values, Education and Democracy: equality – valuing linguistically diversity, we may not discriminate against each other on basis of language
o Means, ideally: provide education to all South Africans in their mother tongue, but learn one another’s languages so that we can communicate as equals - Thus, ubuntu is referred to – which is founded on value of compassion & human dignity
- Notion of ubuntu fosters attitudes of care, kindness, acceptance & ability to relate to each other
- Ubuntu embodies appreciation for human difference & promotes unity within educational institutions & country
