Ecosystems Flashcards
What is biosphere
Biosphere is part of atmosphere and Earth inhabited by living things.
What is an ecosystem
An ecosystem is a community of organisms interacting with each other and with environment.
All biotic and abiotic parts of an area and how they interact.
What are abiotic factors examples
Examples of abiotic factors are Topography (gradient of surface) Climate Pollution Solar energy
Examples of biotic factors
Examples of biotic factors are
Mutualism (where both partners benefit)
Interspecific and intraspecific competition
Predation, parasitism, disease relationships where 1 organism benefits at the others expense
What are anthropogenic factors
Anthropogenic factors are factors affected by humans.
What is density dependent
Density dependent is when a factor is affected by size of population e.g disease, predation - biotic factors are usually density dependent
What is a habitat
Habitat is distinct set of conditions where an organism lives.
What are edaphic factors
Edaphic factors are connected with soil e.g soil pH and mineral content, soil texture
What is a catastrophe
A catastrophe is an abiotic factor, they are infrequent events that disturb conditions considerably e.g flood, volcanic eruption
What is topography
Topography is characteristics of physical environment e.g aspect (direction facing),slope
