Upland areas have poor soils for farming so are used for grazing. Oppositely, lowland areas are covered with a thick fertile layer of soil (till) that is perfect for efficient farming

Glaciated areas often are mainly comprised of conifer trees which is the main tree used to make paper. This makes forestry here a highly profitable business in glaciated areas
Why are more quarries being built in glaciated areas
Resources. Upland areas consist of hard rock suitable for building roads. Lowland glaciated areas contain a lot of sand and gravel which can be used for making cement and concrete. limestone can also be found which is a valuable resource in the chemical industry.
Why is tourism a highly profitable business in glaciated areas
Many come from around the world to see the views, wildlife and cultures of the glaciated areas. It is often locals who pounce on the profit on tourism however some large companies also take their fair share.
