Name the characteristics that the Savannah has.
A
- It has grassy layers and Woody plants
- Is the largest biome in SA (found in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KZN & Eastern Cape)
- Little to no rainfall
- Has mainly sandy soil
- Contains the Big 5 (animals)

GRASSLANDS:
Name the characteristics that Grasslands have.
A
- Has hot summers with high rainfall and cold winters with frost
- The soil has a high humus content
- Dominated by grasses (Sweet- and Sour Grasses)
- It has a large variety of birds

FORESTS:
Name the characteristics that Forests have.
A
- Occurs in patches
- Temperature varies form about 20⁰C to 30⁰C and can get higher + Rainfall seasons vary
- Has very rich soil due to falling leaves, fruit and bird droppings.
- Is dominated by large shrubs and trees.
- Has a variety of animal life (Knysna Lourie is most well know + is endemic )

ALBANY THICKET:
Name the characteristics that Albany Thicket has.
A
- Most of the thicket biome occurs in the river valleys
- experiences fairly high rainfall
- Has a thick layer of soil
- has many short trees, low intertwining shrubs and vines
- examples of animals found here are monkeys, birds and squirrels.
