ECOLOGY
The study of the relationships between biotic and abiotic factors and the environment in which they occur.
BIOSPHERE
Where all living organisms are found.
ATMOSPHERE
The layer of air surrounding the earth that is made up of a mixture of gases.
LITHOSPHERE
The outer layer of the earth, consisting of the soil and rocks.
HYDROSPHERE
The layer of water on the earth’s surface, consisting of oceans, lakes and rivers.
TERRESTRIAL
Refers to dry land of the earth.
AQUATIC
Refers to water habitats of the earth.
BIOME
An area of the earth defined by certain climatic conditions and the dominant plant life.
ECOSYSTEM
Interaction between living (biotic) and non-living, physical (abiotic) factors.
POPULATION
All organisms of the same species living in the same area at the same time.
