Ecology Flashcards
List animal classification
Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, specis
What is ecology
The study of the interactions between living things and their environment
Biology
The study of how and why living things work
What is a primary consumer
An animal that eats plants example herbivores
What is a secondary consumer
An animal that eats small animals example small Carnivores
What is a tertiary consumer
An animal that eats larger animals top of the food chain example in large carnivores
Density dependent factors
Will increase or decrease the caring capacity based on size of population
And city independent factors
Population will increase or decrease the cane capacity regardless of size of a population example forest fire
Biological invasion
Occurs when a species arrives in an area in which it was not previously found
Productivity
Sure as to the amount of mass produced in a particular area
Primary succession
Involves the series of changes that begins with bear landscape example lava covered rock
Secondary successional
Occurs when an ecosystem are stores itself after a disturbance example forest fire
Evolution
A change in the genetic makeup of the population over multiple generations
Population
The population is a group of interbreeding organisms of the same species who live in the same geographical area
What does vist stand for
V – Variation-not home numbers in a population are the same
Inheritance – many of these variations are inherited through jeans
Selection – individuals better suited to environment will survive and reproduce
