Ecology
The study of relationships between organims & their habitat.
Population
A group of organisms of the same species, living in the same area at the same time.
Habitat
The place where the organisms live.
Community
All the populations of different species living in the same area.
Ecosystem
The community of organisms and the habitat in which they live.
Organism
A living thing.
Species
A group of organisms capable of interbreeding and producing fertile offspring.
Quadrat
A square frame of wire which may be divided up into smaller squares inside the frame
Biotic
Living factor within an environment
Abiotic
Non- living factor within an environment
Levels of organisations (Highest to lowest)
Ecoststem —> Community —> Population —> Individual
Components of ecosystems
Producers, Consumers, Decomposers
Producers
Organisms that can produce their own food, usually through photosytnthesis.
Consumers
Organisms that eat plants and/or other animals.
Decomposers
Organsims that feed on decaying or dead material & help to recycle nutrients.
