ecology Flashcards
last unit
what is inorganic carbon?
carbon dioxide
describe the carbon cycle
It’s when Co2 (inorganic carbon) is converted to organic carbon compounds that are then used by living organisms, then returned back into the environment as inorganic carbon dioxide.
describe the nitrogen cycle
nitrogen gas is converted to nitrogen compounds and is used by living organisms to build macro-molecules. These compounds are then returned to the environment as free nitrogen
describe the phosphorus cycle
Inorganic P is used to make organic compounds like nucleic acids & then P is returned back into the environment
What is the Tropical Forrest location, climate, and soil like?
It is close the the Equator, the climate is warm & humid, and the soil is thin, poor, and washed away.
