A
Both are mantle rocks where the diamonds form. Carbon was already in the mantle rock.

What type of mantle rock?
A
Eclogite is a metamorphic rock while Peridotite is an igneous rock.

Peridotite is above eclogite.

Peridotite
A
Coarse grained dense igneous rock, consisting of mostly olivine and pyroxene minerals and is derived from the Earth’s mantle and is the dominate rock of the Earth’s mantle brought up from depths of 30-200 km deep.

Eclogite
A
Forms at great pressure than those at the Earth’s crust and upper mantle. It is usually a dense rock with red to pink garnets and lots of accessory minerals including quartz, zoisite, corundum and diamond.
