ECG Flashcards
lead placement
red - right fore
yellow - left fore
green - left hind
asystole
no activity
sinus arryhthmia
normal
high vagus tone - careful in procedures that stimulate vagus (ocular sugery)
1st degree AV block
vagal stimulation or very deep anaesthesia
common result of alpha 2s
reduce depth of anaesthesia
long PR - delayed conduction through AV node
2nd degree AV block
vagal stimulation or very deep anaesthesia
common result of alpha 2s
reduce depth of anaesthesia
clustered QRS, no P
3rd degree AV block
complete AV dissociation
stop further deterioration and make sure other parameters normal
Atrial fibrillation and ventricular ectopic
mad quick waves, early heart beats abnormally strong
stop further deterioration, make sure other parameters normal, recover ASAP
ventricular premature complexes plus compensatory pause
usually hypoxia or hypercapnia, sometimes low blood pressure
add analgesia
supraventricular tachycardia
pain, hypotension, hypercapnia, hypoxia, hypokalemia
treat underlying cause
ventricular tachycardia
often a degeneration of supraventricular tachycardia
can degenerate into ventricular fibrillation
treat underlying cause
can be a major underlying condition - eg sepsis
ventricular escape
may be sure to alpha 2s or high dose opioids
treat underlying cause, ensure other parameters normal
PQRST
P - atrial contraction
QRS - ventricular contraction
T - ventricular relaxation
