A problem solving cycle that involves police officers and staff creating the best possible research evidence to inform or test policing policies, decisions and practices
What is the ATLAS mnemonic used in problem solving cycles?
Ask: questions that will help understand the problem
Test: helps understand whether you will achieve the response you want
Learn: measuring outcomes and understanding failure
Adapt: your response to reflect what you have found
Share: your findings across the board
What are the methods of evidence-based approaches?
- Systematically collected practice based expertise
- Quantitive research involving numerical info
- Qualitative research involving non-numerical info e.g. interviews
How might EBP be used in policing approaches?
- Tackling crime: new approach to night time economy
- engaging public: satisfaction surveys
- tackling disorder: face-to face conversations with with community
