-Dredging of shingle has damaged sea floor habitats
-Beach shrunk as the groynes have stopped longshore drift of shingle

-1 million tonnes of shingle added to beach: absorb wave energy
-94 timber grounds rebuilt using tropical hardwood: prevent longshore drift and the movement of sediment up the beach

-Rock armour: protects cliffs from being undercut, easier and cheaper than sea walls
