- Is the origin of fluids - it ensures that the part of food and drink that does not go to make essences of food condenses into the form of body fluids.

- Governs transformation and transportation.
- Controls the blood - keeps it in the vessels.
- Controls the muscles and the four limbs - extracts food/gu qi to nourish the tissues in the body.

- Controls the raising of qi, makes sure the organs are held in their proper place.
