Dyremodeller Flashcards
Alzheimers Disease (AD)
genetically modified animals. Although none of the existing models fully reproduces the complete spectrum of this insidious human disease.
Because the etiology of idiopathic AD is unknown, animal models have relied on the utilization of genetic mutations associated with Familial AD (fAD)
Model for NFTs
To model the NFTs seen in human AD it has been necessary to develop Transgenic mice (!) that express further gene alterations in addition to mutated APP such as mutated human tau or removal
Amyloid-B model
transgenic mouse models, which overproduce and recapitulate the Ab and tau pathologies that are associated with Alzheimers D
Translational issues, Alzheimers
In fAD, a mutation in APP or PS1/2 causes the accumulation of Ab, whereas the causes of Ab accumulation in sAD are unclear, but likely to be a combination of genetic and environ- mental factors. Both are highly influenced by aging, with fAD manifesting at younger ages, and being more aggressive in its progression.
