Dynamic and Ecological Systems approaches Flashcards
Cognitive systems approach
traditional
hierarchical and top down
linear and predictable
informs direct or traditional coaching practice
Dynamic system approach
more progressive
dynamic and complex
non- linear and unpredictable
informs constraints- lead pedagogy
What is the dynamic systems approach?
a way of teaching that focuses on the development of the individual
emphasizes changes, different activities, progress so that the sport can meet diverse student needs.
non linear
What is the ecological model?
how the learner perceives the tasks and interacts with their environment
What are the three degrees of freedom?
Freezing - limiting number of joints that can move independently
Releasing - starting to engage locked joints, allowing for more fluid motion
Exploiting - improving performance by exploiting degrees of freedom, taking advantage of movements.
Self organization within the dynamic system
the ability to respond effectively to instability
if one understands the dynamic system, they can self organize to adapt to instability.
three central concepts to the Ecological model
- Perception -action coupling - see think do
- affordances - how objects and environments can offer you action possibilities
- attunement - becoming more responsive to the environmental cues, acting on them, tuning in.
How does action perception connect?
We must perceive in order to move, we must move in order to perceive.
