Dura mater Flashcards
Dura mater is the
Outermost meningeal layer
Dura mater is a tough fibrous membrane, made up of what?
Dense irregular connective tissue
Cranial dura mater consists of 2 layers
Periosteal layer
Meningeal layer
dural venous sinuses
The two layers of the cranial dura mater are normally closely adherent to one another but in certain regions become separated to enclose blood-filled space
In some regions:
The dura mater
Tightly adherent to the inner surface of the skull (e.g. cranial cavity floor and midline of the cranial roof)
Separated from the skull by a narrow extradural space (e.g. frontoparietal area)
Dura mater vasculator
Supplied primarily by the middle meningeal artery and vein
Dura mater innervation
trigeminal nerve (V1, V2 and V3)
