DUAL_CANOPY_DEPLOYMENTS Flashcards
1
Q
Both The Main And Reserve Canopies Are Inflated
A
- First, determine if the canopies are entangled, if you are unsure if they are entangled, assume they are
- If canopies are entangled or you are unsure, do not perform cutaway procedures
- Do not release brakes in a dual canopy situation. If the brakes are un-stowed on one canopy, un-stow the other
2
Q
Both The Main And Reserve Are Inflated, They Are Not Entangled
A
- If the risers are not entangled, place left hand, on the left rear riser of the left canopy
- Identify and grab red cutaway pillow with your right hand
- Look at canopies to identify separation and pull left rear riser
- Once canopies are separated to a full system width, pull the red cutaway pillow with the right hand and release left rear riser with left hand.
- Perform a canopy controllability check
- Below 1000’ AGL do not cutaway, attempt to steer into the wind and land
3
Q
Side-By-Side (Entangled Or Unsure)
A
- Keep canopies together by pulling inside rear risers on each canopy
- Apply minimal input to land safely
- Do not attempt to flare, PLF
4
Q
Bi-Plane (Entangled Or Unsure)
A
- Keep canopies together flying the dominant canopy with rear risers
- Apply minimal input to land safely
- Do not attempt to flare, PLF
5
Q
Down Plane (Entangled Or Unsure)
A
- Force canopies into a side-by-side configuration and keep together by pulling inside rear risers on each canopy
- Apply minimal input to land safely
- Do not attempt to flare, PLF
6
Q
Partially Deployed Reserve
A
- Main canopy is inflated, reserve deployed but still in the D-bag
- Do not un-stow brakes. If already un-stowed go to full flight and release toggles
- Carefully attempt to pull in reserve deployment bag and lines, contain it in your arms
- Steer main canopy with harness inputs or reach up with one hand and turn with rear riser
- At 15’ AGL drop reserve D-bag and lines to the ground, then flare with rear risers and PLF
- Keep suspension lines neat in case reserve begins to inflate
- If reserve begins to inflate, feed suspension lines out and perform dual canopy procedures
