March 2022: publication of DSM-5 TR added further SDOH and cultural factors such as gender identity and sexual orientation in diagnosis
1 in 5 could be diagnosed with mental health issue
DSM-4 to DSM-5
reorganized to reflect disorders across a CONTINUUM based on developmental and LIFESPAN considerations

set criteria for all substances that only vary with symptom presentation based on type of substance used –> meet any 2 criteria for any substance
