Dry Lab Cranial Nerves Flashcards
What are the components of cranial nerve 3?
somatic motor and visceral motor
what is the innervation of CN 3 somatic motor?
extraoccular muscles (superior, medial, inferior rectus, inferior oblique) and levator palpebrae superioris
what is the innervation of CN 3 visceral motor?
intraoccular muscles, ciliary body, sphincter pupillae
where does CN 3 attach/originate?
mid brain at the superior colliculus level
where does the CN 3 go through?
supraorbital fissure
what are the general functions of CN 3?
eye movement and lens adjustment
what are the components of CN 5?
somatic motor for divison 3
somatic sensory for all divisions
what is the somatic motor innervation of CN 5?
division 3 to the temporalis, masseter, medial and lateral pterygoid, tensor veli palatini, tensor tympani, anterior digastric, and mylohyoid
what is the somatic sensory innervation of CN 5?
division 1: orbit, and 1/2 of anterior scalp and eye
division 2: maxillary
division 3: all of the other face, great auricular nerve for taste
where does CN 5 attach/originate?
medial, lateral pons
where does the CN 5 go through?
division 1: superior orbital fissure
division 2: foramen rotundum
division 3: foramen ovale
what are the components of CN 7?
somatic motor, somatic sensory, visceral motor, visceral sensory
what is the somatic motor innervation of CN 7?
facial muscles, digastric posterior belly and stylohyoid muscles
what is the somatic sensory innervation of CN 7?
external ear
what is the visceral motor innervation of CN 7?
forms synapse in the pterygopalatine ganglia to innervate the lacrimal and mucosal glands
forms synapse in the submandibular ganglia to innervate the submandibular and sublingual glands
